While I prefer to focus on women with my commissions, occasionally someone, usually a friend or someone I’ve known long enough to trust, will ask me to paint something else. And although it terrifies me to paint people’s children, I say yes. It terrifies me because I’m not making photo realistic representations or even promising that it will even look like them. People are wiggy about their kids especially, and if I get it wrong in some way, it could go terribly. I’m learning to trust that the people who ask me to paint for them are usually already on the same page as me. I think it’s just going to take some time for me to internalize that truth and do what I know how to do.
I couldn’t be more happy with these or the reaction I received from the patron. To quote, I think it went something like, “omg, these are fucking perfect.”
So, there’s that.
